Community Legal Centres

The National Children's and Youth Law Centre is part of the National Association of Community Legal Centres, the peak representative body of community legal centres across Australia.

Community legal centres provide free legal services to the general community, though generally individuals and groups who live with social disadvantage. While most centres are geographically based (providing generalist legal advice), some specialise in particular legal areas at a national or State/Territory level. The NCYLC is one such specialist legal centre.

Aside from providing legal advice, referral and information, community legal centres also engage extensively in law reform and social policy development. Each Centre is operated and managed independently, with direction from peak bodies at a State/Territory and national level.

The NCYLC is an active member of the National Association, participating in and supporting policy and campaign initiatives taken by the national peak. Further, the Centre also participates at a State and Territory level. The NCYLC has representation on a number of committees.
