Aboriginal Legal Services

The NYCLC is committed to representing to rights and interests of indigenous young people, as a group who are often marginalised, not only as young people, but also as indigenous young people.

The Centre works in consultation with Aboriginal Legal Services across Australia to lobby and develop policy with respect to the educational, health, welfare, legal and other needs of these young people. The Centre is also committed to promoting the human rights of these young people as indigenous Australians in line with international treaties. Most importantly, the Centre provides support to the provision of legal services to indigenous young people through these vital agencies.

Aboriginal Legal Services operate across Australia, and are coordinated by a national peak organisation.

The National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders Legal Services Secretariat (NAILSS) is based in Queensland. Details on this and Aboriginal Legal Services around Australia can be obtained by contacting them on 07 3211 3522.
